School Community Council

PURPOSE OF OUR COUNCIL
The purpose of the School Community Council is to improve student achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. The Council's primary means of achieving its purpose is by making recommendations to the principal of the school and the school board. Principals and boards are responsible for considering the recommendations made by each school council and for advising the council of the actions taken in response to these.

MEETINGS
Our meetings are usually held monthly at the school. All meetings are open to the public. Individuals may request items be added to the agenda by contacting the council chair or the school two weeks prior to the meeting date.

HIGHLIGHTS
It is the role of the School Community Council to review policies and procedures from JDSS and Bluewater District School Board. Our council's input was requested on the scheduling of March Break, and for the first day of school for grade 9 students in September. The council also advises on new school teams.

JDSS was one of the first schools in Bluewater to implement the Link Crew Program, which involves a crew of trained senior students who provide support for the Grade 9 students as they make the transition into high school. Based on our success, almost all Bluewater schools have implemented this program.
